Design and fabrication of scientific experiments

The LGC has a mutualized department to design, produce and run experimental pilot plants and scientific instrumentation.

Various professions are present within this department to cover all the skills which allow the construction of scientific instruments.

- Development department

  • is in charge of the studies preceding the design of a pilot plant, in particular drawings of parts or whole mechanical units which will be produced in the workshop. The department is equipped with Autodesk Inventor software which allows the 3D design of parts and whole mechanical units.

- Mechanical workshop :

  • The mechanical workshop of the LGC, located behind the CROUS restaurant of the Labège site, allows the production of metal frames, mechanical parts for a pilot or required for its assembly (straps, housings, rails) or for the construction of reactors (machined plates, parts for microfluidics). The mechanical workshop of the LGC is equipped with 2 conventional milling machines, a digital milling machine, two conventional lathes, a column drill and all the tools of a boilermaker’s workshop.

- Instrumentation / electronics

  • The instrumentation / electronics department handles the design, the assembly and the implementation of the devices which will allow the acquisition of the operating conditions (temperature, pressure, flow) of a pilot plant and especially its safety devices.

- Assembly / Implementation

  • This technical part relies on the skills of the prototype technicians. They ensure the assembly of your pilot installation, set up a safe start/stop procedure and train you in the use of the prototype. Generally, the prototype technician has participated in the work from the design phase. We also look after the logistics of installation in industrial sites (water-treatment plants) or academic sites (loan of materials: FERMAT Federation ("Fluids, Energy, Reactions, Materials and Transfers").
