Design of a Multiproduct Lignocellulosic Biorefinery through the Process Modelling of a Feasible Superstructure

- Products derived from biomass have high potential to replace the classical chemical products and to develop the revalorization of the green wastes. To elaborate this kind of product, it is necessary to create processes and industrial pathways, and then determine the optimal biorefinery.
- The study presents a multiscale methodology consisting in a decision support tool. The selection depends on efficiency, profitability and sustainability of the process. In this model, the process structure consists in the pretreatment, the hydrolysis, the fermentation, the separation and the purification. The Acetone-Butanol-Ethanol fermentation’s methodology is demonstrated in this study. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.
