The programme is organised into four main objectives :

  • taping the microbial biodiversity to find new electro-active bacterial strains
  • reinforcing an interdisciplinary core of knowledge on the electrochemistry of microbial biofilms
  • designing optimal biofilm electrodes, test them in optimal conditions before to integrate complete MFCs
  • assessing the MFC technology to produce electricity from paper industry effluents, from agricultural residues, or by coupling MFCs to plant rhizospheres.
